NRL State of Mind is one part of the NRL community that focuses on awareness and improvement of mental illness. We were handed the challenge of redesigning the NRL State of Mind website for the duration of the NRL State of Origins games. It needed to be big and bold, but still fusing the message of mental health and wellness with rugby.
THE OVERVIEW
The NRL State of Mind program aims to increase mental health literacy, reduce the stigma around mental illness, start positive conversations and enable connections across communities regarding this important social issue.
The Objective
The Process
THE AUDIENCE
Aimed at fans of the NRL and beyond, the site also shows how players maintain their mental health and wellbeing. State of Mind Ambassadors are the face of this program reaching out to fans in need from all over.
THE MESSAGE
With the message that mental illness doesn’t discriminate, NRL State of Mind provides valuable information towards mental health and wellbeing, while partnering with health organisations like Lifeline and Headspace.
THE INNOVATION
Creating a sleek online experience for the audience to find out more about mental health and wellness.
THE EMOTION
Allowing fans to choose their side, red or blue, immediately lets them show loyalty to their team and they are rewarded with the homepage reflecting the colours of their team.

The Solution
Stripping the old site from its look and feel, we completely overhauled the user experience and design and created something compelling and in line with the NRL State of Mind branding. A striking image greets the user upon entering the site with the ability to choose their team, NSW or QLD, which then changes the colour scheme of the homepage to match their allegiance.
With a seamless interface, bold imagery, graphics and animations powered by an Umbraco CMS, the site leads the user through a number of ways to maintain mental health and wellbeing, as well as providing links to healthcare partner sites for additional support.
